Tourist Office

The Town is now a popular tourist destination. This was not something that began in the last few years, with the strong pull of inland tourism but   it has been a well-known and visited since the 1960's. One thing that is certain, however, is that the number of visitors increased sharply over the last few years. Bearing this in mind, these days tourism is currently well accepted and understood by the inhabitants of Besalú.

There are no precise figures relating to tourism in the town, but the data gathered from people visiting the Tourist Office give an idea of the type of people who visit..

Visitors to Besalú will enjoy an extremely important piece of architectural heritage. Besalú's Tourist Office organises tours in which you can learn more about this heritage. Alternatively, visitors may of course decide to tour the town on their own. To help guide visitors, brochures pinpointing sites of specific interest (Sant Vicenç, Sant Pere, the Miqwé, the bridge, the wall) are available throughout the Town. The most important buildings have informative signs outside them. . The Tourist Office also provides comprehensive and varied information to visitors who request it.

DIFUSION: The objectives of the office are: Making Besalú an exceptional centre of heritage,   making use of the town’s historic heritage in its daily life, creating awareness of the town’s history and heritage among the local population and increasing access to its culture.

It has been frequently stated that Besalú's Museum is in fact Besalú itself. The town’s greatest cultural potential undoubtedly lies in its architecture. An analysis of the parameters which dictate current patrimonial management indicates that what is lacking is comprehensive information that would help visitors understand what they see during their visit to the historic town's. Currently, this information is provided to visitors during the guided tours organised by the Tourist Office. .

We are convinced that Besalú's tourist office offers high quality services related to cultural and patrimonial tourism. It’s important that Besalú’s touristr office  does devote itself solely or even in a large part to the foreign visitors who come to spend a few days or hours in the Town, or to promoting Besalú as a tourist attraction. . It  must play a cultural role for its residents, so it becomes a dynamic force for the local population.
